Introduction
The Hanuman Chalisa is a 40-verse Hindu devotional hymn composed by Saint Tulsidas in the Awadhi language to praise Lord Hanuman. It is a powerful prayer dedicated to Hanuman’s strength, courage, wisdom, and devotion to Lord Rama, commonly recited for protection, strength, and overcoming obstacles.
Hanuman is a Hindu deity and a devotee of the Hindu god, Rama. He is one of the central characters of the Ramayana. According to the Shaiva tradition, he is also an incarnation of Shiva. The Hanuman Chalisa praises the power and other qualities of Hanuman including his strength, courage, wisdom, celibacy (brahmacharya), and devotion to Rama. ref
Legend
According to popular historical legend, the timing of its creation is tied to a specific event in Tulsidas’s life involving the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Emperor Akbar supposedly heard of Tulsidas’s devotion and miracles. When summoned to the court at Fatehpur Sikri and asked to perform a miracle, Tulsidas refused, stating he was merely a devotee of Lord Rama. Angered by this response, Akbar imprisoned him. It is believed that during his confinement, Tulsidas wrote the Hanuman Chalisa over the course of 40 days, composing one verse (chaupai) each day. Legend has it that upon the completion of the 40th verse, an army of monkeys swarmed the prison and the city, forcing Akbar to realize his mistake and release the saint.
The word “Chalisa” is derived from “Chalis,” which means forty in Hindi, reflecting both the 40 verses of the prayer and the 40 days he spent composing it in captivity

Day 01 | ദോഹാ
ശ്രീ ഗുരു ചരണ സരോജ രജ നിജമന മുകുര സുധാരി ।
ഗുരുവിന്റെ (ശിവന്റെ) പാദാരവിന്ദങ്ങളിലെ പൊടി എന്റെ മനസ്സാകുന്ന കണ്ണാടിയെ തുടച്ചു മിനുക്കുന്നു.
വരണൌ രഘുവര വിമലജസു ജോ ദായക് ഫലചാരി ॥
നാല് ഫലങ്ങൾ, പുരുഷാർഥങ്ങൾ (ധർമ്മം, അർഥം, കാമം, മോക്ഷം) നൽകി അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന രഘുവംശ രാജാക്കന്മാരിൽ ശ്രേഷ്ഠനായ ശിവരാമചന്ദ്രന്റെ വിമലമായ ചരിത്രം ഞാൻ പാടുന്നതാണ്.
ബുദ്ധിഹീന തനുജാനികൈ സുമിരൌ പവന കുമാര ।
ഞാൻ ഒരു അജ്ഞാനി ആണെന്ന് അങ്ങേയ്ക്കു അറിവുള്ളതാണല്ലോ, അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ അങ്ങയെ വാഴ്ത്തുവാൻ ഞാൻ അർഹനല്ല എങ്കിലും അങ്ങയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹത്താൽ എനിക്ക് അതിനു സാധിക്കും.
ബല ബുദ്ധി വിദ്യാ ദേഹു മോഹി ഹരഹു കലേശ വികാര ॥
അല്ലയോ വായുപുത്രനായ ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമി, എനിക്ക് ബലത്തേയും, ബുദ്ധിയേയും വിദ്യയേയും, തന്നു അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചാലും. എന്റെ അജ്ഞാനത്തെ ഇല്ലാതെ ആകൂ, കൂടാതെ എന്റെ ചപല വികാരങ്ങളെ / ദോഷങ്ങളെ ഇല്ലാതെ ആകൂ.
